There's no reason to keep the photo in the first place. Felix finding it would lead to hurt feelings until Jim explained what was going on, and said Weirdness would still be there. And why shouldn't the elder Imperial be introduced to the real Jim Kirk, or left out of silly holiday events?

He deserves to know what 'fun' is too, after all.
