Verity's in her favorite seat in the forum, drinking coffee and trying to read a book that's frustrating her. It isn't long before she puts it down with a scowl aimed at the cover (or possibly the concept of books). "Does anyone understand Norse mythology? Is that a thing? Because I do not get it."

"Alternately, any suggestions for hobbies for someone with lots of time and few skills? Preferably things that aren't group activities."

((A note about Verity: she's got a magic spell stuck in her that lets her always know when someone is lying to her. Please respect this; if your character is trying to lie to her, please make that known so she can react appropriately.))

"True, true. I am...reflexive with my ways regarding Overlanders. Where I am from, if you see one, odds are good he will want you dead in short order. So you'd best be the one to strike first. Though I have begun to realize, ehhn...You are not Overlanders as I understand them. Simply 'humans'. Remarkably less bent on battle and destruction. I hope that I will adjust in time."

He's quiet for a bit, then admits, "...It was rather startling to show up in this place and see nearly nothing but, I will confess. One more reason I assumed this place was made by the doctor to facilitate my end. Just drop me in a closed space full of hated foes!"

"That sounds scary," she agrees. "I doubt I'd have reacted any better if someone did that to me. Thank you for giving me a chance to prove I'm not like them." She'll skip over the part where Naugus' own reactions probably don't help the situation when he meets an Outlander. Also the part where she'd have to explain that no, there's plenty of war and destruction where she comes from too. These are facts better saved for later, when they're on more solid ground with each other.

"If your enemy did send you here, I bet he's going to regret it when you get back."

"Oh, I know that he did. And I know that he will feel the coldest of fear upon my return. It is a plain fact that he is afraid of me; he doesn't bother to hide it because he knows how well he has wronged me in the past and how much greater my power is. Why else would he go to these measures to lock me here?"

Not a single lie present.

"Interestingly, said enemy is also an Overlander. I just don't have that outstanding of a track record with the whole race, it seems. But then again, what Mobian does?"

"One nation of warmongers doesn't speak for the whole race," she reminds him. "Hell, the ones you've met probably don't speak for everyone in their own country. War is an extremely divisive issue. And you know, you're in a whole new place now, full of all kinds of people. New track, new record."

He hisses but doesn't argue. Guess that's a concession to her point. His tail thumps angrily once or twice, but that's it. No arguments or yelling or voicing his dislike of (presumably) being lectured.

"Do you have that address, by any chance?"

Sure, take it as a lecture instead of good advice about how to destabilize your enemy's political structure when you get home. That's fair. It could have been both.

She holds up the paper where she's written her address. "Here. Thanks for not requiring some of my hair or anything like that."

[ixis]

"I can't recall the last time I did magic of that nature. Why, who's asking for hair? Was it that Schön fellow? He asked the same of me; a strand from my beard, which I declined at the time. Do you regret this exchange for any reason?" Give him the dirt, Verity.

The paper is plucked delicately from her fingers with his claw, assuming he's allowed to take it and read it over.

Yeah, he can take it. Her handwriting is reasonably tidy so hopefully it won't be hard for him to read.

"It was. I have no idea what he did with it and I'm probably happier that way. I'm not really thrilled with the idea of his having it, but I needed to get home and nobody else was offering to help so. Desperate times."

He squints at the address, reading it over once, then twice, before tucking it away in his belt. There. Now he can write to her. Hopefully, she won't regret giving him this information!

"I could always try and converse with him again, perhaps glean what he has planned? Sometimes choosing ignorance leaves you open to unpleasant and unexpected results. There are many things I can think of off the top of my head that one can do with a single hair, were they magically-inclined. Most of them being hexes."

She's best friends with LOKI. She's like the queen of bad decisions already.

"He didn't mention that when I asked. Maybe he doesn't know how." Or maybe she didn't press long enough. "That would probably be worth knowing."

It's not quite a request, but he might have his own reasons for wanting to know Schön's limits.

"The man reeks of innate magical abilities. I'm not sure the scope of them, but anyone doing you a great favour in exchange for only a strand of hair certainly knows what he's going to do with it. Do not fool yourself, Verity."

The funny part is he's the same way. Maybe that's how he recognizes it. He'll make innocuous requests in exchange for things, and then you find out what you gave him was more valuable and dangerous than you could ever realize. Takes one to know one!

"You're probably right," she admits. "I'm not sure I want to know what it would cost to find out what he did with it."

[ixis]

"What? From him or from me? I fully intend to find out what his game is. Like I said, I multi-task. This is also one of the reasons I didn't take him on his offer. I know his game and I have faith in my own abilities." For the time being, anyway.

[brave_heart_verity]

"From him. But if you want to find out, have fun. I hope it goes well." And that she doesn't get stuck in the middle somehow.

[ixis]

"Don't worry, I can be subtle when the occasion calls for it. We shall see how things progress. In the meantime, ehh..." He looks back down at where he'd tucked the slip of paper with her address into his belt. "...Do keep me posted on domicile results?" He's so oddly relieved someone else is taking over this matter; he's not used to this kind of mundane stuff.

She nods agreeably, although she does wonder what his idea of 'subtle' entails. "I will. It shouldn't take long."

[ixis]

Either hiding in shadows and elements themselves and eavesdropping or marching around and yelling at the top of his lungs. There is no in-between and the off switch doesn't work.

Naugus gives Verity a bow, grateful. "Thank you kindly. I look forward to hearing your results! And I will begin doing my end of the bargain and see what research I can uncover on these, nnn..." he glances at her book cover again for a hint, "...Nnnorse gods!"

The bow gets a surprised look. People don't do that where she's from (not to people like her anyway) and it's a little weird. "Okay! So we'll catch up soon. Bye!"
