Verity in the forum? Not a strange sight. Verity without coffee? Rather less common. Verity slumping, exhausted, into a couch? Unusual. Verity covered in scrapes, bruises, and dust? Definitely strange.

"Help isn't if it's forced on someone. This is true. Someone not in possession of all of the facts cannot give fully informed consent. This is also true. But nobody can be forced to listen." Of course Verity has things on her mind. Who here doesn't? "How do you reconcile that? Is ignorance truly bliss? Or do you do what's needed to save someone despite their choices?"

((A note before you come to play with Verity: she's got a magic spell stuck in her that lets her always know when someone is lying to her. This includes sarcasm and knowing when someone believes something to be true when it isn't. This doesn't include lies of omission. She can also see through illusions. Please respect this; if your character is trying to lie to her, please make that known so she can react appropriately. [I completely understand this isn't going to be everyone's idea of fun.] Thanks.))

I think ignorance is only bliss to the ignorant. Those who know look back on their own ignorance in horror. But I also think that you've got an answer in mind, deep down, that you're hoping you hear someone else say, so you won't feel alone in the idea. Care to share it?

"...that obvious, am I?" It would figure Samus would see right through her, given all the time they've been spending together the last few months. "I thought I'd give her my PINpoint and show her how to use it, so she can decide what to do when the time comes." Really, it's the best of both worlds for her. It's not like she's getting out of this without feeling guilty about something.

Most people come here with an answer they're hoping to hear. Admittedly, yours is one of the few that seems reasonable. You'll be needing another PINpoint, then?

If Samus calls it reasonable, Verity is inclined to believe her. She feels better already.

A bother? Not at all! I couldn't tell you how many of the things I have, whole or in pieces.

"The being in pieces would make accurate counts more difficult," she points out dryly.

That was the problem all along.

It does lead to a question: "Where did you get them all?" Why doesn't anyone else seem to have one?

The person who invented them used to leave bowls of the things out, free for anyone who wanted one. I'm not sure whether their absence is a sign of his absence, or if Nexus geography has just shifted and they're all somewhere else, now.

Generous and naive, that was Al to a T. He was an anthropomorphic personification of the idea of heroism, I'm not certain he could have been any other way.

Long pause. Blink. "He was a what?" Surely Samus can't mean... "He was a living idea?"

"...okay." Good job Samus, she hasn't heard of that before.

*It takes a moment for that to register. Samus has been in the Nexus so long, she sometimes forgets which parts of it are weird.*

She nods. "Yeah. I don't think we have that where I'm from."

That gets a laugh. "Yeah. I'll try."

*A laughing Verity is better than some of the alternatives. Samus lets her savor it for a few moments before trying a question.*

How're you holding up?

She gives a little shrug. "I knew he probably wasn't going to be there." But she's not good at hiding the disappointment.

*She nods, extending a hand in an offer of comfort. She respects Verity's boundaries, lets her choose the moment and degree of contact--if any, at all.*

Verity's quiet for a moment, but she'll take the offered hand. "Thanks. I don't. I don't think there's going to be any more looking."

*Verity's hand gets a light squeeze.*

Then she pauses.

"You weren't here for the demons, were you?"
