Interdimensional Cable
Today in the forum, someone has set up a techno-pile of video gadgetry. At the heart of it is a television, and an old one at that. The screen is large enough, but it sits in a retro wooden fixture that gives it the appearance more of furniture than of an entertainment system. All the better for it to hold the weight of a number of video-playing devices from across the ages and dimensions.
On either side of the pile of plastic boxes and tangled wires stacked on top are a set of outdoor lounge chairs. One, sat up like a chair, is empty. The other, fully reclined, is full of a whole lotta dead dude. It’s Harrowheart, who can’t possibly understand the vast majority of what he’s lying next to, a lit cigarette between his lips and his arms dangling off the chair and onto the grass. His floating hands are hard at work twisting knobs and pounding on the top of the television. Now and then the screen flickers with a hint of a signal.
Without spending the energy to lift his head, Harrow calls out to any passers-by, “Hey! What’s your favorite movie? People keep tellin’ me about ‘em, but I ain't ever seen one. I wanna find a good one and invite everyone over to watch it. Help me pick one out, will ya? And if y’ain’t ever seen a movie either… I dunno, weigh in on someone else’s recommendation?”
(( OOC Info: I want to stream a movie in-character! I love streaming movies, usually it’s a really good time for everyone involved. I’ve never done one IC, but I think this is a great opportunity to start. I’ll take any and all IC movie recommendations (real movies only!) and by next Wednesday I’ll try to decide which one we watch. The better your character talks it up, the better its chance! I’m shooting for next Saturday the 21st at around 8 or 9pm Eastern for a start time, but I’m going to be flexible if people know they can’t make it. I want as many people to be able to enjoy this as possible! If you’re interested in the idea or have any questions shoot me a PM and I’ll PM you back with answers and details and remember to get back to you when the movie and time are decided. ))

Harrow puts his wrist up to his chin while his hands come together to make that classic box shape of a screen. He peers through the rectangle at the lovely mug of Jesse the Zombie. "Yeaaaaah," he drawls approvingly. "Yeah, I could see that, Jesse!"
He drops his hands and his arms and... oops. Looks like his wrist wound left a little speck of dried blood on his chin. He's not even aware of it. "Do they got musical theatre where you come from, Jess?..."
Oh no. He's really hatching schemes with this one. Careful what you say, Jesse...

Jesse helpfully reaches to brush off that bit of blood, just aiming to do it quick. Help out a bro, not make a big deal of it. Sometimes these things happen when your body's a little compromised due to undeath. It happens.
"I got a few in my crew who like to read Shakespeare and put it on for entertainment night. Sure, we put a few twists on it, though. Like Romeo an' Juliet carryin' on after death. Makes it way better if y'all ask me."

"I play a little guitar, sing a little. Nothin' professional. I'd love to hear you play the piano! That's a rich-folks instrument where I come from, not somethin' y'hear too often. Mostly on my world it's lutes and flutes and trumpets and drums. Lame shit and loud shit."
He bro-nods at Jesse and asks, "What's Shakespeare? Is that one of the 800 Languages of New York?"
no subject
"Rich folk, my green ass! Y'all ain't never heard some blues or ragtime on an ivory, have ya? The hell's even a lute, though. Sounds like some kinda horn. Man, if we can scare up a piano any time soon here in the Nexus, I'll play y'all somethin' that'll make yer toes tap. That's somethin' that should be right here in the forum either way, y'know? What with it all about gatherin' people up and havin' 'em rap a spell."
He laughs at the language comment. "Readin' the guy, you'd think it was a whole 'nother language. He's a fancy fella from our world who done wrote a whole mess o' plays and poems a few hunnerd years back. They must be good cuz they're still being put on. Lotta folks consider him classic literature, as it were. Y'all got anything like that in yer neck of the woods?"

He pauses a second, then hurriedly clarifies, "Not that I hate elves! They're just fine! I just wish they'd let us think a guy who died a couple hundred years ago is old, y'know?
"And for the record, a lute's like a little... Mandolin? Like a teardrop-shaped banjo. It'd be a good instrument if folks wrote songs for it that weren't stuffy as hell or mournin' the loss of Lordaeron – that's the nation that got turned all into zombies."
(( Jesse can play blues piano and Harrow can play the harmonica or jugs or washboard or something and we can have us a bayou zombie band ))

"Man, I wonder if all elves are that long in tooth? I never asked Basheda how old he is. Prolly rude to. You think he's been around a hunnerd years? That'd be wild if he was. Us poor humans and dead fellas who used to be humans. Only got a good 80 years in us before we're pushin' daisies."
no subject
"And, bein' honest? Bein' human on a world full'a folks who live a real long time is the worst. It's like a parade of pity. If you're a poor worker, then you're just livin' up to human stereotypes of bein' a beast of burden. If you're a brilliant world-class mage then it's like 'Ain't that cute, that special needs monkey knows how to smear his poop to look like words.' Not tryin' to be racist here, but I'd give my left nut to have grown up on an all-human world."
i said 'commit to memory' twice in a row, put me adrift at sea
Jesse listens sympathetically to Harrow's complaints of living among races longer lasting their theirs and tilts his mouth to one side in a sort of facial shrug. "I can see that gettin' real old, yeah. Humans are pretty damn clever and impressive and crazy all on their own! An' I'm sayin' that from a place what's full of 'em and we ain't got nothing magical to be amazed at. Figure some people would find it kinda borin' compared to your sorta hodown."
