Single Guard Seeks Thief…
...Wait, no, not that way.
Having been absent from his post for a couple of weeks or so, Felix is once again in Legion leathers and stationed outside the heavy rune-inscribed doors that mark ‘his’ portal. He’s sitting casually atop the desk draped with its red and black Imperial banner, turning something blue-white and glimmering over in his hand. A quill? A feather? Some sort of pin?
“How is it that when you want to find a particular sort of person, they’re nowhere to be found?” he asks, pushing his hood back. “Even when normally you’d be shaking them out of your pockets.”

"So, what kind of a world puts a guard post at their portal? Tourists not welcome, hm?"

"Not at present, sadly. But the Empire of Tamriel isn't so afraid of charming visitors as 'demon' armies from other planes." He pauses. "We have had those before, so it's not entirely because my commander's a suspicious... type."

"Sounds like a real vacation type place." Everything she says sounds vaguely sarcastic or threatening, it's hard to tell when she's serious. And yes, she's like that with everyone.

"It's beautiful," he says sincerely. "Which is why we want to keep it that way. Admittedly some of us are better at distinguishing between 'visitor from outside' and 'threat to all mortal souls', but..." What're you gonna do, eh? "I'm just the legionnaire at the desk."
Anyway. Stuffy old regulations aside: "I take it your people aren't so cautious?"

"I think it's quaint that you have a guardpost where everyone can see you is all. You make a nice target. Good thing your enemies aren't here, hm?'

"I've always been lucky that way. But I fear I've misled you - I'm not strictly a guard. I'm here to provide assistance to any of our good citizens who might stumble in by other means. Which might be difficult if I hid from them."

"I can see why they'd set up a help desk then. With the banners and everything, make it easier to recognize. And the whatever field would make it dubiously safe."

"So how often do folks get lost here from your world? I mean, often enough they made a help desk, for crying out loud."

"Every once in a while." He doesn't know well enough to give a more solid answer. "The Nexus takes people from across time, so 'how often' is an interesting question, you know. But I have met several others so far."
