A question of safety

This Winter has been a harsh one, and the Nexus' resident rogue shows signs of it. Where before Amelia had been comfortable enough to walk about the Nexus with relatively few weapons on her person, she now carries her full armory every time she steps out of the inn she currently calls home. For weeks she's been pondering how to tackle a problem on her own. Now she's come to the Forum to seek advice, as anyone who's been here long enough usually does.

"I've had many thoughts and worries relating to the safety of myself and others after certain events in the last several weeks." Her lips draw into a thin line and she crosses her arm in front of her chest. That's enough context for everyone who might answer, surely. "What do you do to feel safe? Or, rather, when your safety is threatened, how do you respond?"

"Mya? Whaddaya mean, Meatsack?" Miller says in his very best Nekomata voice.

"...Wait, what?" Jim gapes for a good minute, looking positively horrified.

"You're not that catgirl still are you?"

Miller gives him a silent, deadpan look for a few beats before cracking a smile and punching his shoulder. "Nah! Just messin' with you, Jim."

He props a hand on his hip. "So you finally worked out your differences with Naugus? You're best buddies now?"

"Dick! Had me worried there for a minute." Jim lets out a laugh and shakes his head. "I can't believe you."

"Not especially." He remembers the late night conversation they had, before everything ended. It was the closest they'd been to civil pretty much ever. "It wore off eventually, no thanks to Naugus."

"I don't blame you! That guy rubs me the wrong way," Kaz says, shaking his head. "He didn't embarrass you in front of anyone you know, did he?"

The true horror of a body swap.

Jim groans at that loud enough to make passers by stare. He's not looking at Kaz either. Kind of looking like that's a yes.

"I don't want to even remember it. He was wearing that godawful cape. How did he even GET ONE in my size? And Felix saw him and ugh. Ugh it's just the worst. I can't even look the guy in the face right now."

Miller observes the response and gives him a sympathetic grimace. "Sorry, buddy."

He, uh, did see Naugus-Jim in the cape and it was kinda funny.

"I don't think I've run into a Felix yet. Friend of yours?"

"Bed friends."

Sigh. Oh man. Oh man and he'd been flirting with Ixis while the mage was in his body. OH MAN. Jim can't handle this.

Kaz gives a slow, rolling nod of his head that very much says ohhhhhh. Whether this is in response to any revelations about Jim's preferences or the level of embarrassment, it's honestly hard to say. The sunglasses hide a lot.

"Shit. Nothing physical went down, though ... right?"

[smartass_captain]

"You kidding? You could have built a house for the third little piggy with the amount of bricks I shat getting over there to stop them. Aside from some groping and eye fucking, nothing went down. Thank fuck."

Jim shakes his head.

"I just want to forget this whole fiasco even happened."

Kaz scratches the back of his head. "Wow. I guess I got off easy. Neko and I just ran around, committed some arson. Looked cute all the while...
