Sibling Rivalries: Chili Edition

Flyers have been going up around the Forum and Commercial District for the last week or so. This morning,the lights in the VSW Meadhall came on. By noon, anyone getting close enough to an open door would know: chili's on!

Inside, everything's set up and waiting for the hungry and the curious: Clint's cooking in one corner, and Verity's in the other. Between them, tables are laid out with the necessities: bowls, plates, spoons, and plenty of napkins. There's beer and iced tea, some lovely tres leches cakes provided by the Nexus' favorite Japanese detective, and various toppings for the chili: bottles of sriracha and sweet Thai chili sauce, red pepper flakes, green onions and red, lime wedges, diced bell peppers and jalapeños, crumbled bacon, shredded cheddar cheese and sour cream. Cornbread and tortilla chips round things out.

Long tables with a mix of benches and chairs fill the hall on either side of the fire pits. One has board and card games stacked neatly at one end (they were neat when they were put out, at least). Another has two boxes, one wrapped in purple paper and one in pink, for depositing voting slips.

"Cooking competition, huh.." Well, that's a new one. Joshua Washington is still a relatively new face to the Nexus and one that has tried desperately to stay under the radar.

A free meal sounds pretty great to a homeless guy in the middle of winter though.

"Anyone welcome so long as they vote?" He's pointing to the flyer in his hand.

Clint's been hungry a time or two in his life. He ladles up a heaping bowl, holding it out in judgment-free offer. "Kid, the vote's a bonus. Eat up, and I hope ya like it hot."

"You seen the weather outside man? I'd suck a habenaro just to stop freezing my nuts off."

There's a grateful smile at the offer though. He'll gladly take that bowl.

"Thanks." Guess it's easier to tell than he thought that he hasn't had regular meals lately.

"Ha, yeah. Hey, if you want it hotter, I got a pot'a salsa here I named after God's oven mitt. Six of the hottest peppers known to man." Clint grins. "Y'know, if you wanna walk back out there and make some money melting snow offa people's sidewalks."

Clint couch-surfed the Nexus when he first arrived, too, and that was in much better weather.

The only thing making this couch surfing livable is the fact that he'd been dumped here in winter wear already. That and a mind for breaking and entering abandoned places.

"That sounds like a prank more than a foodstuff." The dark haired man quips with a raised eyebrow. "Any takers so far?"

"A couple," he admits, "and I had some." He doesn't quite have enough of a poker face to hide that it was a mistake to do so.

"Bro you don't do your own prank! You're supposed to get others to do it!" He's chuckling though, and it makes him look more his age. All barely a legal adult of it.

"I hope you got it on camera. Youtube and Vine that shit."

"Hey, sometimes you gotta double down. And sometimes they call your bluff."

He chuckles. "Hell, yeah, I got some footage. Cinnamon challenge ain't got nothin' on me."

"Well, I'm gonna pass, on account of I need to keep this food where it is, thanks." Especially since he sees there's more to be had on that end of the lodge.

"I'd slip you a fiver just to see it."

"Fair enough. And keep your money--I actually gotta see if anyone got pictures of me doin' it. But I got some other people."

"Anyone gets on my nerves, I know right where to send 'em. Give 'em hell, Pilgrum"

He gives a two fingered salute and a wink.
