Snowstorms and matchmaking: An early Valentine's post

Winter in the Nexus has been especially present this year. The weather has presented plenty of hardships for the past few months, something which numerous people have bemoaned. It doesn't look set to change, either. If anything, Winter seems to be going stronger than ever. There are no signs of it winding down at all.

Everything seems normal at first, the usual hustle and bustle has the Nexus thrumming now that people have adapted to the cold conditions. Then, rather suddenly, everything kicks into gear. The wind starts to howl, battering people to and fro. Not long after that, the sky becomes thick with snow, making it nearly impossible to see, the biting cold driving people back inside. It soon becomes completely inhospitable to all wandering around outside.

In the hurry to get out of the storm, people end up scurrying to the nearest available shelter. Apartment lobbies, houses, cafés, shops, restaurants, the library... Anywhere and everywhere that offers some shelter. Peculiarly, people seem to end up in pairs as they hide away from the cold. Looks like everyone is going to have to huddle close together. For... warmth... We'll say it's for warmth.

((This is entirely an excuse to shove characters together and force them to spend time with each other. Feel free to have as many threads as you like, trying as many combinations as you like, where ever you like. Brave souls can try and berate Reynard if they really want to.))

"People brag about where they met one another?" That's another new one for her. "I guess I need to read up more on more recent Earth culture. Reading about technology and science hasn't prepared me for this."

The tea in her hands is getting cold quickly - a byproduct of the cold creeping in from outside. She shivers and finishes off what's in the mug quickly before it gets too cold. "Damn this storm. This is worse than anything I've ever seen before. I guess I'm spoiled after living in a port town all my life. Winter is a relatively mild season there."

"Sometimes. I think people just like to tell stories." He's guilty of getting overly excited to tell a story about he met a friend. "I wouldn't call it bragging, though." Not always.

His coffee is long gone at this point; it didn't even have a chance at getting cold. But he's finding that his hands are missing the warmth of it. "It sucks, but I've been in worse." He was just on a snow covered mountain before his arrival to the Nexus. "You get used to it. Being outside is awful, but sometimes it's cool to sit inside all day and watch it."

"Nothing wrong with stories," she agrees.

His subtle movements to get warmth back into his fingers is noted. She pulls off the circle scarf around her neck - a bright blue and purple knitted thing - and hands it to him. "Here. You don't want to lose your fingers." Before he can protest, she pulls a forest green silk scarf from one of her many pouches and places that around her neck. It may not be as effective, but it's still something. "I wouldn't be so averse to watching this storm if the cold weren't coming inside, too. The hell is going on with this weather?"

Reynard, you suck.

Oh, he definitely is about to protest, his objection hanging on the tip of his tongue even as she pulls out another scarf. But the one she gave him is wonderfully cozy, and it would be disrespectful to his own two hands for him to deny them the warmth. "Thanks," he says simply. She seems like the type to insist no matter what he'd say anyways. "Snow sucks like that." It rudely invites itself inside through any means possible. It'll sneak under window cracks and bustle in hurriedly through open doors. It only takes one person to walk into the cafe for the entirety of it to drop twenty degrees for several minutes. "Hopefully it'll calm down soon. You could escape to your house and hibernate for a week."

"That's hard when you don't live in your own house," she notes with an almost terrifying amount of nonchalance. Either she's making a terrible joke or completely serious.

Her eyes settle on the near white-out conditions outside and she frowns. "I fail to see how or why people think snow it beautiful. It seems more like an uninvited guest than anything." True, it muffles sound wonderfully when she's out on a job, but it's smothers everything else in return. How is something like that beautiful? Either way, it seems to be getting colder inside. She pulls her cloak tighter around herself and shivers again. "Fuck this cold."

He considers pressing, but he allows the statement to brush by without further questioning. Truth be told, he isn't sure if he actually wants to know.

Chris ever so slightly disagrees. There's something neat about snow, the way it freezes and crystalizes a landscape. But that's really the extent of that. "That's what I'm saying!" He points enthusiastically. "Fuck. This. Cold."

"Says the man who didn't wear a scarf or gloves when he walked outside today." Amelia can't help but smirk at him. "With that kind of attitude, I'm surprised there's any part of you that's not covered with some type of fabric."
