It's hard to catch everything at a table of four, but he's trying. He finds it easier to do while he's sipping on the coffee than when he's trying to talk. So, did he notice Verity's smile? He did, yeah, but didn't totally connect it to what he said or to him, per se. Even if he had, it's not as if he'd draw attention to it right now.

"I appreciate your help." He says with a thoughtful nod. Maybe he'd figure this all out eventually, on his own, but having people who know where to find this stuff is going to save him some time, probably. Still hasn't quite worked out the payment aspect.
