Matt's blind (haha) faith has him fully committed into doing whatever he can to make this last. Verity has become such a fixture in his life. And he has come to love her in ways he never expected to love a person. He is going to try for forever.

Friends or family who just are in dire need as well as danger. Danger is always around, Matt would rather hoard it all to himself than have it spill over onto other people. It's frustrating.
