Nexus Spring Market Fair

Seemingly overnight, one of the grassy areas edging the Forum has been taken over by a spring market and fair. Part state fair, part craft fair, part Renaissance faire, there are attractions for all comers. Tents and booths of every size, shape, and color are lined up more or less tidily, sometimes with wide avenues between them and sometimes with paths skinny enough to crowd a single person. Goods and treats from the far-flung corners of infinity are on display. The general organization has magic and alchemical goods grouped together and slightly separated from the other tents; arts and crafts fill the area around it. Goods such as clothes and jewelry, plants, and vintage and antique items are in the back. Food is front and center, between the entrance and the rides. This is perhaps not an ideal placement.

To one side is a brightly-lit collection of rides and games familiar to anyone who's been to a state fair. A ferris wheel, flying swings, and all manner of reasons to regret that last funnel cake are blaring tinny music and sporting blinking lights. Remember: rides first, then eat. Classic games that test strength, agility, and luck offer plush prizes sure to delight anyone until the fur rubs off. There are also some animal rides near the exit.

In the back of the roughly-fenced-in area are the exhibits. There's a petting zoo with creatures mundane and more exotic, all promised to be tame; practical demonstrations of new magical and technological wonders; a juried art show; and a stage hosting a variety of performers changing on the hour.

((This is an open event. If your character wants to have a booth selling wares or food, set one up. If your character wants to perform or provide other services, go for it! Please note what sort of service you're providing, if any, in the subject line of your top-level comment. Basically, just run with it and have fun!

I offer pictoral inspiration and ask that any pictures used in comments not be more than 300 px tall (and it looks better if you can keep it about the same height as your text). Code to have your text wrap around your picture below.))

"It's good to see you as well." Trixie's body language makes it rather easy to tell that she's glad to see Ravari, also curious about what she has for sale.

"I decided to take a break and go for a wander to see what there was around the fair, and I just had to stop by when I realized you were here." She was quite excited to get a chance to look at all the wares for offer, not just what Ravari had brought. "Have you had a chance to look around yet?"

A fair such as this is likely to hold most anything Trixie could desire. Isn't that a lovely sort of danger?

"Ah, I have not yet. I usually leave my own wandering for the end of the day; there are perhaps fewer goods on offer, but there are more stories of what sold well, and that has value too." Plus, it lets her know her own budget better. "I hope to see your own offerings soon. And for now, please, feel free to ask me any questions you have about my own wares. I have many magical trinkets that may interest you, alchemical samples, and a few books on the practice of magic in my world."

It's a very big danger, and Trixie is doing her very best not to splurge too much on anything. Mostly she wanted a chance to see what people were paying for things while the fair was in full swing, trying to figure out what items sold well, because a number of people seemed to rotate in and out when they ran out of items... Or at least that had been her experiences in other fairs at home.

She nods. "We shall have to compare findings then. I tend to take walks during busy times because I like to see who's bringing items that sell out, causing them to leave early." At the mention of magic related books, Trixie's ears perk.

"As tempting as it is for me to raid your wares right now, I left my money locked up for just that reason. I'm afraid I'd spend far too much and not have enough for change." Chuckling a bit she grins at Ravari.

"Would you perhaps join me at my cart for tea tonight when the market section of the fair closes for the evening? I have a feeling we'd do better with barter than we would with local coin." Trixie could already spot a dozen or more things that she'd like at first glance, but she doesn't want to be greedy... nor go broke.

Not splurging on things she can't really afford is part of Ravari's reason for not going on such walks as well. She is, after all, part cat; curbing her appetite for shiny amusements is difficult.

"Tea this evening would be most delightful, and I thank you for the invitation. And I agree, we would do well with barter. We each have much to offer the other." The promise of new alchemical ingredients is exciting for her. "And much to discuss as well."

Do you want to have them have their 'tea' here in this thread, start a new post somewhere or ?

Trixie is really pleased that Ravari decided to accept her invitation. It was always nice to get to know new friends better, and the fact they could trade things was a nice bonus as well.

"Yes, I do believe we will be up most of the night." She giggles "Perhaps I should make you a packet of tea that you can have in the mornings. I know I'm likely going to need it myself."

Something occurs to her and she looks a bit embarrassed to not have thought of it before extending the invitation. "Oh dear, I just had a thought. Is there anything that you shouldn't eat or drink? I'll have to check my ingredients before I serve you some of my teas."

As a unicorn, she could shrug off eating some things that others were not able to... even plain earth ponies could eat some things that gryphons and dragons could not. Granted, the reverse was also true, but still. It was the reason that she'd not sold any of her potions here as of yet. Perhaps she'd have to go shopping before tonight, just to be safe.

Either would be fine with me.

"I am certain I will enjoy any fine tea you choose to share." The half-delirious state of sleep deprivation isn't so different from the state khajiit seek for religious purposes with their moonsugar. Ravari doesn't mind it, on occasion, when she knows she's safe.

"Ah, no, I am able to enjoy all the same food and drink as other people, at least, the people in Tamriel. Perhaps it would be easiest if this time I brought things to share as well? Then we can both learn about the other's appetites."

Spoiler: she's got a massive sweet tooth.

We can start it here and move to a new post if it looks like we'll break the page? XD

"I have quite a few whatever I pick... I'll be sure to make out a list of the contents, just in case. That way you can look and we can be sure that I'm not going to make you ill with it." Being half delirious and sleep deprived or ill feeling might be fine sometimes, but it make for a miserable time running a shop and likely poor decisions when selling items.

"That sounds like a good idea, but don't bring too much." A giggle "We can only eat so much after all." It doesn't even occur to Trixie to mention that she doesn't eat things that contain animal products. (At least those that require harm to the creature supplying it. Milk is fine, lard is not, eggs are iffy depending on the way they're collected, etc.)

Return spoiler: Trixie's is likely worse.

Works for me :)

"That is most considerate, and I thank you." Khajiit don't expect outsiders to understand their rituals. Which is fine: more moonsugar for them.

"I shall be careful to not let my eyes be bigger than my appetite," she promises. Learning Trixie's dietary requirements will take some time, but it's an effort Ravari's willing to make.

Cool ^_^ I added a bit of a timeskip to this, so let me know if you need any edits?

"You're welcome." Trixie might not understand, but she'd still be curious and willing to learn about them.

She nods and makes plans to pick up a couple of things at least, just in case. "I shall see you this evening then." Once Trixie says her good-byes, she heads out to get a couple of things and then returns to her cart to open her shop back up until evening.

==Later after the market is closed for the night==

Trixie had packed all her sale items away, set a closed sign up near her cart and set a small fire up with a bracket for a kettle and pot. There were two piles of pillows for them to either sit or lay on, plus a few blankets as well.

She'd set up tea, but also a pot with a few chambers of things to dip the assorted snacks in that she'd bought earlier in the day. Fruits, crackers, veggies and herb bundles were only some of the things on the platter to be dipped. There were also tarts, cakes and candies on another platter... Seems there was a reason she told Ravari not to bring too much.

One thing that Ravari might notice is that despite some of the items having dairy or eggs in them, there was nothing that contained meat or animal products that required harming the creature to harvest it.

Looks good!

Ravari's not going to get Trixie stoned because her player can't do that to a MLP.

After Ravari's packed up her booth and had a wander through the remains of the market, she comes around to Trixie's cart. As warned, she didn't bring too much, but as promised, she isn't empty-handed. She's brought a few of the sweet rolls favored in Skyrim, but also some wheels of various cheeses. The Nords do like their dairy. The common theme of everything being meat-free doesn't go unnoticed, which is why she isn't unpacking the salmon steaks she brought as well.

"Good evening, my friend. I trust your day has been profitable?"
