Nexus Spring Market Fair

Seemingly overnight, one of the grassy areas edging the Forum has been taken over by a spring market and fair. Part state fair, part craft fair, part Renaissance faire, there are attractions for all comers. Tents and booths of every size, shape, and color are lined up more or less tidily, sometimes with wide avenues between them and sometimes with paths skinny enough to crowd a single person. Goods and treats from the far-flung corners of infinity are on display. The general organization has magic and alchemical goods grouped together and slightly separated from the other tents; arts and crafts fill the area around it. Goods such as clothes and jewelry, plants, and vintage and antique items are in the back. Food is front and center, between the entrance and the rides. This is perhaps not an ideal placement.

To one side is a brightly-lit collection of rides and games familiar to anyone who's been to a state fair. A ferris wheel, flying swings, and all manner of reasons to regret that last funnel cake are blaring tinny music and sporting blinking lights. Remember: rides first, then eat. Classic games that test strength, agility, and luck offer plush prizes sure to delight anyone until the fur rubs off. There are also some animal rides near the exit.

In the back of the roughly-fenced-in area are the exhibits. There's a petting zoo with creatures mundane and more exotic, all promised to be tame; practical demonstrations of new magical and technological wonders; a juried art show; and a stage hosting a variety of performers changing on the hour.

((This is an open event. If your character wants to have a booth selling wares or food, set one up. If your character wants to perform or provide other services, go for it! Please note what sort of service you're providing, if any, in the subject line of your top-level comment. Basically, just run with it and have fun!

I offer pictoral inspiration and ask that any pictures used in comments not be more than 300 px tall (and it looks better if you can keep it about the same height as your text). Code to have your text wrap around your picture below.))

This took me far longer to write than I want to admit to... XD

Skyfire had picked a quieter point in the day to wander around the fair, not wanting to have to worry as much about the crowds of smaller people about. He was just looking around mostly, making the odd trade or purchase here and there, only to stop short as he heard someone mention Cybertron.

It didn't take him long to track down the place where Swindle is set up, and he looks a bit unsure of himself once he finds it. He'd honestly not seen another Cybertronian since he'd crashed so long ago, and he's not sure of the reaction his new form would cause.

He honestly didn't know how much of him was still Cybertronian after everything, and he wasn't sure he wanted to find out either, but... This was the shape he was stuck in, for better or worse, so he might as well go find out what kind of reaction he'll end up getting...

((ooc: If it comes up at all, he'll still be recognizable as mostly Cybertronian from a scan, but generally not at first glance. Feel free to ask whatever questions you need about the head canon and bs I spun to make him into a dragon AU XD Swindle will likely have a very easy time selling him all sorts of junk and scrap, jsyk.))

Swindle has been busy trying to sell some of the things he brought with him, and some of the items he has back at home. A Cybertronian does need to try an honest living, or a dishonest living as far as Swindle is concerned. With a bit of time to himself, Swindle's got his optics on the datapad in hand and not on the fair grounds around him.

And he gets the feeling as if someone might be watching him, and this prompts Swindle to lift his head up from his busy work. A dragon. Those aren't new even on Cybertron these days. "So what can I help you with?" Swindle asks with a slick grin crossing his face, and he slides his datapad onto the counter beside him. "And no, I don't happen to have a supply of knights or princesses in stock." He tries for a bit of humor.

With the Skyfire of his world on Earth with Prime, and not to mention the whole space plane thing he doesn't notice anything that will catch his attention. "But I'm sure I've got something for a dragon's hoard of treasure!"

(ooc: My Swindle is from the IDW comics post war. :] So the most he knows of Skyfire at least the one in his universe is he's on Earth with Prime and all space planey.)

He's a bit surprised to be addressed so easily, but then again it wasn't as if he really looked like a Cybertronian anymore... Well, he wasn't going to waste the chance to be treated somewhat normally, even if he looks a bit taken aback and grossed out before he realizes the bit about knights and princesses is a joke.

"Ahem... Uh yes... I'm looking for mostly scrap metal and wires, but I wouldn't turn down more complete parts of things. Parts for a solar collector and still would be good as well."

Skyfire can't help but outright laugh at the mention of a 'hoard of treasure.' "I'm afraid I'm a rather lousy dragon. Not much of a hoard of treasure at the moment, just a bunch of sculptures, some cut stone and some local currency from trading at the moment."

It was pretty much true, since anything he had collected back on earth and when he wound up in the world with the colorful ponies were far from his reach at the moment. "I'll find what I can afford and make it work until I can afford better."

(ooc: Lol and all this Skyfire knows is pre-war Cybertron, so anything faction wise is totally new to him. He's been stranded on earth since he crashed... awake for most of the time and locked in the dragon shape. XD)

Swindle keeps looking up, and he is not looking to pick a fight with anyone. Then again, he never was the kind to pick a fight. With a hand going to his chin, Swindle gives it a quick rub when Skyfire asks for scrap and wires. "Those aren't hard to come by." And he has plenty he is willing to part with for free. "But I can stand to get rid of my junk." He nods his head over towards a Cybertronian sized dumpster.

"Help yourself to those. But are you looking for something else more intact you'll need to be a bit more specific." Swindle leans back against his counter with his hand going to rest on one of the petro-rabbit cages beside it. And one of the rabbits starts to nibble on a finger. "And I might be able to do something about the solar collector parts."

He got straight down to business, and he is relieved the dragon isn't interested in more than electronics. "Though all of this seems a bit out of place for a dragon," he says with a shrug of his shoulders.

The saying 'one man's junk is another's treasure'? That would apply very well to Skyfire at the moment as he peers into the dumpster. Scrap metal, wires, old chips... after being stranded and having to build stuff from scratch on a planet that hadn't even invented the combustion engine as of the time he'd 'left', this was like hitting the jackpot.

"There is no point using good wire for non working mock ups and sculpture support. I think I can actually use most of this..." Or melt it down for other uses in the case of the scrap metals. "I'd be willing to arrange to pick up your junk every now and then if you'd like to clear it out regularly?" It would mean Swindle wouldn't have to deal with possibly paying someone to get rid of it at the very least.

Skyfire is doing his best not to look at the 'pets' Swindle has, mostly because he doesn't think it's right to buy one when he's got nowhere safe to keep it. Even though he could likely use the company.

"If you can find me prices, I may be able to work something out for payment. It shouldn't take too long for me to find something that will sell here after all." The Nexus seemed to be good for that, it seemed as if there was a market for near anything. He might be starting from scratch again, but at least here he could get supplies.

"So I've been told... but then again, I suppose it's because I only look like one." A half shrug was given in return. "But it tends to be as good of a descriptor as any. It's not like the world I was stuck on had the appropriate words in the local language." Nor was he sure if he still truly qualified as a Cybertronian...

Swindle leaves the pets are, and even he has a great concept of one man's junk and he happens to live by the motto. "Eh, I was going to take those parts back home with me anyway to be melted down. It's either that, you get it, or the turbo rats get to gnaw on it." He makes quick mention of home as he goes to lift the top up of the dumpster. Besides the wires and other junk, he has plenty of other things in too poor of shape for him to profit from. A con artist he maybe, but he knows many people have a sharp enough optic to tell pure junk from good junk.

"And I can just have my mechanoids bring my bins here to the Nexus for you to collect while I'm not here." But then he hears the dragon mention looking like a dragon. Odd. But for now, business is business, and he'll get to the small talk later or not. "Waaaait a moment, bucko. You're only a dragon because you look like one. Am I missing something here?" Swindle cautiously walks over towards the dragon, and he goes to get a better look at him. "That's cause well you are a dragon, or whatever one might call a big flying lizard."

At the explanation of where the parts were going, Skyfire tilted his head. "Sounds like about what I'll be doing. Stripping out the few components I can use, melting metals and such. Do you get anything for it when you take it to be melted?" Because even if he doesn't, Skyfire figures that he should give something as payment later anyways. It's good to keep on good terms with your only supplier after all.

Swindle coming over to inspect Skyfire has him taking a half step back, before he calms down and then outright laughs at being called 'a big flying lizard'. "Well, it's been a very long time and I'm not sure if this will work... but..." Skyfire sends out a very old, short range, transmission over various communications channels. It's just a standard greeting, almost indecipherable, but should be recognized as Cybertronian at least.

Skyfire grimaces and the transmission cuts sharply, clearly he's not able to transmit anything like he 'used' to.
