The season is a'changing, the weather is warmer. The forecast calls for high temperature, low humidity and a light breeze. A near perfect day. What better reason to gather the friends and have a good time with a bonfire? Grab a beer, have a seat. Cheery tunes fill the salty air. There's plenty of room and so much to eat.

Matt Murdock is actually dressed for the beach. Still likely more than usual. He burns so easily. There's no way he could have done this alone. Anyone who is anyone in Nexus knows that there is that distinct Verity Willis touch on everything. If the sounds and the sights don't get you, it is going to be whatever Clint has on the grill. That man is magic.

Never one to miss a gathering, custom nonetheless dictates that Schön occasionally arrive to such things a little after they've properly begun. He has traded out his black fedora for a Panama hat, his suit for a loose, gauzy black shirt worn open over a white button-down shirt with the top button undone and the cuffs rolled up. In place of slacks, a pair of black Bermuda shorts with a subtle paisley pattern of black-on-black. He's even traded his crisp black shoes for sandals, which seem not to be sinking into the sand as he strides over it. His cane doesn't seem to sink in very far, either, and its head today is the silver image of a coiling ammonite shell.

"Verity!" he calls in greeting, flashing one of his smiles. "Such a lovely gathering you've brought together--again!"

"Hey, boss." Schön gets a great big grin to go with the affectionate greeting. She won't even ask about the shirt-on-shirt action. She is in too good a mood to worry about things like that. "Oh no, this was Matt's idea. I just helped with the menu. I'm not even doing most of the cooking."

They both know she did far more than that, but she wants Matt and Clint to get the credit today. "Peach sangria or berry?" There's both, one made from white wine and the other from red. Beer is less often on his radar when there's wine, but if he wants some there's plenty of that, too.

"The peach speaks to me, if you please," he answers. "Well, light or otherwise, I recognize your hand in this, and applaud all. The lights on the net are especially charming," he adds, gesturing toward the volleyball net with his cane. "And you are radiant, of course, although that I will readily credit to your Mr. Murdock."

She nods and pours him a glass. The wine is good, the fruit is fresh, it should be a nice drink on a hot day. "I thought it'd be useful tonight, to be able to see where it is." This is going to be a long party, so it's really hard to be late for it.

The comments about her and Matt have her blushing. Her Mister Murdock. She likes the sound of that.

Schön takes a sip, and expresses a sigh of satisfaction. "Delightful." Her suggestion of playing around the net in the dark prompts him to wonder, "does the ball glow, too?"

Her blush tells him his remarks found their mark. It's a thought meant to be savored, and one she's well earned. He raises his glass in a silent toast to it.

A direct hit. Her brother couldn't have aimed better.

"Thank you." It's a delayed answer, but includes the latest compliment. "It does, yeah. And I've got stuff for a glow-in-the-dark ring toss, too." Now if only there was someone who knew how to play the guitar that spontaneously appeared. Seriously, she has no idea where that came from.

On certain matters, Schön is just as remarkable as Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

"Of course! I feel foolish for even asking," he chuckles. "A glow-in-the-dark ring toss, hmm? Dear Verity, you do think of everything." He wonders about the guitar, to be sure, but all things in time. One doesn't rush a proper spectacle.

He is considerably more magical than most of them, and a better dresser than Dr. Strange.

She smirks over at him. Of course, she prepared thoroughly. He knows that--he's met her and worked with her. "Not everything, but enough to get by I hope."

The guitar's hardly the most random thing to happen in the Nexus.

High praise--he'll take it.

"I have no doubt. Is there anything you'd recommend to my attention, or are we at the mingling phase?"

Given how rarely she praises people, isn't it all high praise coming from her?

"We're mingling. Or some people are swimming, it looks like. If you've got something you'd like to do, by all means, get it started."

That doesn't make recognizing the quality of the praise a bad idea.

"No, no, I'm here to mingle," he admits. "Having shaken that glittery head-cold, though, I wonder what my reception in some quarters might be."

Fair point.

"We're calling it a 'glittery head-cold' now?" Very's amused, but she'll let him run with this for now. "Who wouldn't be happy to see you?"

"It seems a polite enough euphemism," he insists mildly. "I think my reception might be not so much unhappy as disappointed. I met a lady of great dignity and honor in that state, and did her a small favor. I am not usually so generous, and the second impression will perforce amend the first."

"Fair enough." She'll roll with it. A good euphemism is worthy of respect.

"Ah. Afraid of disappointing her?" She glances around before asking, "Is she here?"

"I thought I saw her," he answers, looking around as well, "but I don't at the moment. Lady Brienne of Tarth, if you've met her."

In their separate wanderings they'll cross paths. Perhaps by the abundant table of offerings or standing just beyond the reach of the waves.

The table is a good place to cross paths. One cannot live on sun and wine alone. "Ah, Mr. Murdock, such a gathering you and Verity have arranged," Schön greets him, raising a glass, "my compliments!"

"Schön," it's hard not to smile. "I thought that was you. Hello." Matt is layering his stomach with something that isn't a craft beer or grilled meaty morsel. "Thank you so very much. I know it's something if you're around."

A party brought them all together after all.

Schön laughs. "Such credit you do me, Mr. Murdock! To be sure, this gathering was already a something before I arrived. How go matters in Hell's Kitchen?"

They're getting really good at parties.

"I respect your judgment." To put a point on things. He takes a fork to the salad he's dished for himself. "On the up and up. There are a few businesses moving in. I feel like there's an upswing." Meaning there are even more reasons to be cheerful.

They are! Why people will think they're social!

Schön looks over the fare on offer and takes one of the grilled peaches, his sweet tooth peeking through. "That is good to hear! One always rejoices at tales of a neighborhood finding its feet without losing its charm."

Perilous thought, indeed.

Excellent choice there. Those and Verity's cookies hit the spot. "My sentiment exactly. And you know New York. It's a hell of a town. The charms aren't always apparent, it's gotta keep what it's working with." Any neighborhood in New York.

"What's been occupying your time outside of the work place?"

Schön laughs merrily, flashing another grin. "Why, Mr. Murdock, my workplace is the entire multiverse! There is no outside it--although I have been known to take the occasional break."

His grin is so self-assured and apparent that it is nearly like he can see it. Matt smiles in return. "Does that ever uh... stress you out?" He takes another bite.

The thin man is keeper to a very bright smile. Sometimes, it's even warm. "Stress? I wouldn't say so. I'm not one to mind a wealth of options and opportunities."
