The season is a'changing, the weather is warmer. The forecast calls for high temperature, low humidity and a light breeze. A near perfect day. What better reason to gather the friends and have a good time with a bonfire? Grab a beer, have a seat. Cheery tunes fill the salty air. There's plenty of room and so much to eat.

Matt Murdock is actually dressed for the beach. Still likely more than usual. He burns so easily. There's no way he could have done this alone. Anyone who is anyone in Nexus knows that there is that distinct Verity Willis touch on everything. If the sounds and the sights don't get you, it is going to be whatever Clint has on the grill. That man is magic.

Nope, she likes them now that she knows to expect them. Surprises, she's not great at. But properly scheduled hugs? She's so there.

Acknowledging her past and the pain in it shouldn't have to ruin a good time. Yes, that hug. So needed. Then cookies, one for him and one for Groot. Of course, she noticed him rustling up behind her. "Groot's one of the best dancers around here, you know. Maybe if you're nice, he'll take you for a spin later. Cookies?"

There might not be so much of a need to use Groot's puppy-like distractability against him, but just in case. Foggy might need a minute.

Groot's handshakes are enthusiastic things. Foggy's teeth might rattle. Still, how do you turn down a smile like that? "I am Groot," he replies, before Verity catches his attention. She mentioned cookies, after all.

Rattling teeth still are set in a grin. Too bad Groot won't look into law because that handshake would really get him places. "What do you do for a living, Groot?" Though it's pretty clear that this is how the conversation will go. Foggy would ask the same of anybody he met.

Verity coming on back also gets him to look. "Thanks." He will not take a bite before examining it. Sand dollar!

Groot can have a cookie, because he is good and she'd never deny him anything. In fact, he can have two.

Foggy gets one of her little smiles. "You're welcome." But her look is asking if he's okay. She can engineer a chance for him to escape if this is getting too weird.

Well, Groot is a growing, er, Groot. He accepts his cookies with a grateful rumble, chomping down on one and tucking the other into one of his nooks somewhere (he's saving it for Rocket, in case his friend turns up anytime soon).

With crumbs escaping his lips, Foggy's question is answered the only way it can be: "I am Groot."

He finally takes a chomp. All the cookie examination was really about enjoying the look. As expected, it's delish.

"I saw you guys cutting the sand rug. If you have some old timey dance battle, I'm sure it'd be pretty close. And that's with Twinkle Toes Murdock on my team."

"A dance contest?" Welp, now she's interested. Having to compete against Matt, though...

It's all in good fun. Right?

And don't think she didn't see where you put that extra cookie, Groot.

"What do you say, Groot? Should we show the boys how it's done?"

Groot grins, nodding with enthusiasm (though not enough to dislodge his slightly mossy prom-crown). "I am Groot!"

Absolutely all in good fun! Everyone is a winner when you're busting a move. Foggy reaches into his bag, and opens a small cardboard box of stunner shades.

"These are mandatory for participants." He selects a bright yellow pair for himself.

"Are they?" Ver gives the plastic frames a dubious look. "Pretty sure they're not my prescription..."

But, well, rules are rules. She'll take a bright pink pair for herself and tuck them into her hair. He never said how hey had to be used.

Groot takes a purple pair, and after a thoughtful nibble, he puts them on properly (see icon). "I am Groot."

Foggy puts them on immediately. Verity is being a good sport. He gives her a grin. Groot gets a thumps up.

"Best looking beach party I have ever been to. Should we lay some ground rules for the boogie down?"

Being a good sport isn't her default mode, but Matt's been teaching her to play nice. Aren't they all lucky?

"Rules? What kind of rules?" Leave it to a lawyer to bring up rules...

"I am Groot?" the big tree echoes. Who needs rules to dance?

"Rules like... no do-overs. You can tag your turn to your partner but only once per dance turn. We need at least two objective judges. Aaand a reliable DJ needs to provide the music. No picks from the participants."

Foggy has done this before....

"Wow, that sounds like a pretty serious thing, and erm..." She looks around before pointing out, "Who here would you pick?"

Groot scratches the back of his mossy head, because all of that sounds very complicated. "I am Groot," he offers uncertainly.
