There are many cases of moments when a person has not realized that they have just entered the Nexus. This seems to be the situation, when one of the doors into the Forum swings open, letting one Hermione Granger enter. The young witch is balancing a large piles of books as she walks, thus remains blissfully unaware that she has entered the Forum.

Hermione walks carefully, counting her steps just under her breath. In the library where she had originally been, there was a table exactly 15 steps away from the research section, which she is now looking for to set down her books.

Unfortunately, in the Forum, there is no table exactly 15 steps away. So when Hermione gets to her destination, and goes to set down the books, she trips over the fact that there is nothing there. The books go flying out of her arms...but in a split second, Hermione pulls out her wand and calls out "Leviosa!" The books start to float in the air, none of them hitting the ground.

With one eye on the floating books, Hermione glances around her new surroundings. She needs to find a safe place to lower her spell and figure out what do to next. Won't someone help her?

"Fortunately, none of these have any bad manners," Hermione smiles slightly. The books are easily herded towards the couch.

"Do butterflies have bad manners where you're from?" That draws Frea up short. "I'm so sorry to hear that."

When the books are on their way she has to ask: "What do they do?"

"Oh no... not butterflies. Books with bad manners." Hermione clarified.

"I have a few magical books in my pile, and sometimes they can get into mischief."

[maydayqueen]

"Oh." Somehow, that's more believable.

"Too much magic in one place has strange side-effects," she agrees with a nod. "You're lucky these only want to listen to gravity."

"I have a lot of experience with places packed with magic. There are people who know how to handle it. And unfortunately, those who don't."

[maydayqueen]

"Yeah? Good to hear. You should be just fine around here."

With the books herded, Frea takes a moment to give Hermione more of a looking-over. It doesn't last long and is mostly polite, perhaps a little overly curious, but can Hermione really find fault with that?

"You're some kind of mage?"

"I'm a witch." Hermione answers honestly. "One who is just looking for new direction in her life."

[maydayqueen]

"Oh. This is a good place to find those. You might miss it if you keep your nose buried in those books." Like she missed the fact there was no table, for instance.

[mudblood_andproud]

"I can get a little lost in reading..." Hermione admits shyly.

[maydayqueen]

Even Frea isn't so easily distracted she doesn't notice that about Hermione.

"It's good to get lost sometimes. But maybe only in one way at a time?"

[mudblood_andproud]

"I must admit that not ending up where I thought I was going was a little unexpected."

[maydayqueen]

"It'd be worrying if you expected this sort of thing to happen. Or a fairy tale." Witches don't tend to figure into those very nicely, alas. The good magicians get wrapped up in glitter and fairy wings and gods, which is well enough on its own but not the sort of life everyone enjoys.

"Well, I have learned to expect the unexpected."

[maydayqueen]

"But if you expect it, how is it unexpected anymore?" Frea may just be teasing her now, it's hard to tell. She's doing a remarkable job containing her natural inclination to giggle.

[mudblood_andproud]

"It is rather hard to make plans. But I still like to be prepared for anything that comes my way."

[maydayqueen]

Frea's quiet for a little while, thinking about something, before she asks, "Do you see a difference between planning and preparation?"

Her tone suggests this is a philosophical question, not a pointed one.

[mudblood_andproud]

"I do. I know I can't plan for everything that might cross my path..."

Hermione then pats a small pink pocket-book at her side. "But I can be prepared for the unexpected."

"And the nice thing about magic, is that there are many spells that help you be prepared for a number of outcomes."

[maydayqueen]

"Having a versatile tool or two can make all the difference," she agrees. "But what if you can't do magic?"

[mudblood_andproud]

"I can't imagine that scenario for myself. But I know that my parents had to overcome a lot of unexpected difficulties in their life... all without magic."

"No? You aren't worried about stumbling into a place where magic doesn't work?"

fun! It is too bad icons can't 'break the box'. that flower would look cool with a pop

"No. I grew up in a Muggle home... a place where my parents didn't use magic. Or even had magical items around."

"I would do a little better in those kind of scenarios, than other Witches or Warlocks that I know."

I could try to make it spin around or something. That'd be a bit silly tho.

[maydayqueen]

"Sounds like you're just ready for anything then."

Frea does not believe this, but if it makes Hermoine happy...

"It would be impossible to be ready for anything." Hermione shrugs. "I just try to be prepared the best way I can be, to face things in the way I hope is best."

[maydayqueen]

"Mm. Not a bad philosophy." A bit idealistic from a girl who didn't notice stepping out of her reality. But that gives her something to aspire to, and that's not usually a bad thing.

"So your books okay here, or do you need to make sure they don't fly away?"

[mudblood_andproud]

"The spell is no active anymore, so they shouldn't fly off on their own." But sometimes, the unusual does happen.
