James T. Kirk absolutely loves marketplaces.

It's not necessarily because he's looking for anything, per se, although he does often keep an eye out for interesting books to add to his collection, or maybe a bottle of some kind of exotic alcohol, or some kind of pointless alien gizmo with which to annoy Spock with its purposeless existence. No, he just loves the sheer diversity each bazaar brings to the table.

No two markets have ever been alike, in his experience. Sure, it's not quite as exciting and mysterious as exploring deep space, but it's something of a microcosm of the same, all sorts of goods and cultures thrown into close quarters, and one never knows what one might find just down the street.

His shipboard gold uniform may stand out a bit in the crowd as he meanders along, a faint smile on his face as he leans in to examine someone's wares on display, just enjoying being out and about in the fresh air.

[OOC: Retconning Jim eating bacon in this thread. Hadn't fully considered some of the elements in his backstory at the time.]

"Guess that depends on whether or not you take Starfleet credits as payment," Jim says, raising his eyebrows slightly. But he does take a closer look at the various art pieces on sale, to see if there's anything up his alley.

"Sure I would." Hunter shrugs his shoulders. Even if he can't find a way to use the credits as actual income, he might be able to use them for an art project.

"What is standard payment around here, anyway? I've seen a lot of barter going around, and economics isn't really my thing."

Jim pokes through the jewelry, with a particular interest in bracelets. He's not really a necklace or ring kind of guy, but he can appreciate a nice sturdy wrist cuff.

"Since there are multiple words and multiple dimensions, most people use the barter method. Trade something nice for something you want."

[ooc: the player knows that :P. Hunter doesn't, so that was just his internal thinking that it might be actual metal]

"That's good to know," Jim says with a grin. "I can get my hands on a lot of stuff, even if it's just raw materials. Anything in particular you like to get?" Hey, might as well ask for next time.

"Well, I am an artist. Anything that I can use to make new stuff, would be fine with me. That way, you are actually helping me produce more items to sell."

"I can create with paints. Metals. Clay. Flowers. And I am sure you might have some cool materials that I have never seen before."

"Great. Metals are probably the easiest, though I'll probably have to stick with the classics. I don't even know what kind of trouble I'd get into if I gave you modern alloys." Although now Jim is interested to see what kind of art Hunter would make out of transparent aluminum. Alas, 'tis probably never to be.

The captain picks out one of the more masculine-styled bracelets on display, one that's gone a bit subtler with the roses than some of the other pieces. "I like this one."

"Good choice." Hunter smiles softly. "I can place it in a bag, or you can wear it now. And as for exchange... you can pick up the tab when we meet up again for drinks"

"Better bag it up; if my first officer sees me wearing a non-regulation accessory while in uniform, I'll never hear the end of it." Jim rolls his eyes, but there's a fondness in his voice when he speaks about his second in command.

Hunter finds a suitable brown-colored bag to place the purchase inside, after wrapping it with some paper beforehand.

He glances over at Jim, hearing the fondness in his voice. "Dabbling with relations with your crew, Captain? Tsk tsk."

He is teasing. If Jim has someone special to him on his ship, Hunter would approve.

Jim laughs a little, taking the comment in the spirit it was meant. "Nah, Spock's dating my head of communications. He is tall, dark, and handsome though. I like to think we're friends, although I can never get him to admit it. He's a Vulcan," he adds, as if that should explain it.

"So you have a type..." Hunter smirks again. He feels he fits two out of those three categories.

He tilts his head slightly. "Afraid I don't understand why him being a Vulcan would prevent him from admitting something like that."

Jim laughs a bit more, because that conclusion is inherently funny to him. "Wow, it's been a while since I've heard of 'types' being a thing."

Oh yeah, 2017 human. Even if they do somehow share histories, first contact won't happen until 2063. "They've got this society-wide philosophy that focuses on logic and controlling emotions, to the point where it's a common belief that they plain old don't have 'em. Got a bit less common lately though." His smile slips a fraction. Clearly, there's some sad event responsible for that change in public opinion. "Spock's a bit better about it than most, but he still pretends he's an emotionless robot most of the time."

"Okay. Remind me not to have you and Jack in the same room. I am not sure my '2017' mind could handle the sexual overload." Hunter chuckles lightly.

He is a lot more open minded, having Jack as one of his good friends. But there are still some society norms that are difficult to overcome.

"Must be quite an interesting dynamic to have on your crew."

Jim's starting to think he needs to meet this Jack guy one of these days. He sure sounds like he knows how to party.

"He keeps things interesting," Jim agrees. "He's good at bringing up stuff I haven't thought about, but sometimes the devotion to logic gets a bit much. We had a rough start, but I think it's smoothed out a bit over the past year."

Hunter already feels his eyes will be open to a whole new world of ideologies by knowing Jim. And having both him and Jack in his life can only be a good thing. And there are sure going to be those late-night fantasies involving both of them.

"You need to have that balanced mind in your life sometimes. I am fortunate to have a few friends who center me. Help me think over my own goals."

Jim's glad that Hunter agrees with the need for balance. "Oh yeah, all my crew are great at keeping each other in line. Everybody needs someone to tell them no once in a while. Doesn't mean you necessarily need to agree, but it makes you think."

"They sound like a great crew. And that you are on a great adventure."

"Your friends sound like great people too." Everyone deserves at least one, if not more, and Jim's already fond of this open-minded hot dude from Earth's second Dark Ages. He's certainly been interesting to talk to.

"And I have one more to consider a great friend." He means you Jim.

Jim rewards that compliment with yet another patented Kirk charming grin. "You too, Hunter. I'll see if I can get some time off by the end of the week and we can get that drink."

"Sounds good. Looking forward to it." And Hunter flashes his own charming smile.

"Me too. Seeya 'round."
