When Hunter made his first appearance in the Nexus, it was in The Parklands. And today, he is sitting in the same spot near the water. He has a canvas set up, and is working on a large piece depicting a mother pushing a child on a swing set. There is also a large collection of books near him. Obviously he had been studying over something of importance.

He gets to the point where the canvas is nearly complete, when he stops and places his brushes to the side. After studying the canvas for a moment, Hunter reaches out and touches the canvas, right in the lower left corner.

He closes his eyes and concentrates, and after a moment, the picture on the canvas comes to life. There is also a soft glow on his arm, where a few tiny roses bloom to life on the rose bush.

But the moment doesn't last long. It ends very quickly. And Hunter sighs a little frustrated. "What am I doing wrong?"

Jim tilts his head a little, wondering at the shift in the topic at hand. He's sure it's related, but he's not sure how just yet. "It's a word that means look-alike."

Wait, what. Of all the things Jim was expecting to hear, that wasn't one of them. "That's a hell of a coincidence."

"Yeah, I'm starting to get that." Though Jim hasn't seen any of the real weird stuff yet.

"I'm not surprised, with a good-looking guy like you." Jim smiles at him, nudging his shoulder with his own.

"Hey, I don't sleep with everyone I flirt with," Jim protests with a grin, leaning into the touch a little. "I probably flirted with half my crew back when we were cadets, and I haven't slept with any of them." Which is a damn shame, of course.

"Hey, it's probably for the best. Frat regs and all that. Now I don't have to worry about any retroactive stupidity from the admiralty."

Jim looks incredibly amused by that, possibly more than he should. "Walt Whitman, huh? Well the poem's all about how the captain's dead, so maybe."

((ooc: so FUN FACT, Jim is currently shortly pre-second movie, in which he dies (and gets better). I am loling forever.))

"No argument from me," Jim agrees, but he gives Hunter's waist a small squeeze. "Especially when there's more appropriate poetry you could use. 'Wild nights! Wild nights! Were I with thee, wild nights should be our luxury,'" he quotes with a grin.

"Yeah. I was... hospitalized for a while when I was fourteen and had nothing to do but read. My grandfather started bringing me some of his old paper books whenever he came to visit, and once I was discharged I worked my way through his whole library. I've still got a crate of 'em in my quarters on the Enterprise."

Jim looks slightly embarrassed now, using his free hand to scratch at the back of his head. "Yeah, kind of an old habit. From being on the road a lot." From what Hunter's told him about his own past, Jim doesn't imagine he'll have to elaborate on the need to keep his personal items packed in case he needs to just pick up and go. And even though the Enterprise is the closest thing he's had to a permanent home since he was twelve, it's hard to shake the habits of a lifetime.

Jim raises his eyebrows, smiling a little. "I don't recognize that one, but I like it."

That smile widens, and Jim chuckles a little out loud. "Painter, sculptor, poet... is there anything you can't do?"

"Hey, I bet you could learn. They practically fly themselves these days. Although you still have to take off the parking brake," he adds with a grin that says he's seen some hapless officer make that mistake before. Or at least heard of it happening.

Poor Sulu will never live it down.
