Trixie's lucky day? (Aka +1 unicorn XD)

That right there sure would be a unicorn with a bright azure blue coat and cornflower blue mane, trotting right out of nowhere into the forum. The thing that she's pulling, looks like a combination of a cart, storefront and small house behind her... It's not a huge wagon by any means, but one gets the feeling that there is more to it than a first glance would have you believe...

Trixie decreased her speed from a canter, to a trot, and finally a full stop as she looked around the area with a puzzled, but also surprised, look on her face. "Hmmm... Well, this is new..." It didn't take her long to spot what she thought had to be the ugliest sign she'd ever seen, and shortly there after, the 'Welcome to the Nexus' brochure. "Nexus?"

Floating the pamphlet over using magic, she started to read it, and looked quite intrigued by the information. "Interesting... I wonder..."

Clearing her throat, she looked around and asked "Could anyone please tell me what the local currency here is?" She paused and considered things a moment. "Also, do I need a permit to sell items here?"

Well, why not? It's not like she had any urgent business anywhere, any chance to for her to gain knowledge, new items and perhaps sell some of her wares, it would be stupidity of the highest order to let an opportunity like this pass her by.

((Before I tag in: Ver's got a truth-sensing curse stuck in her that she can't turn off. She knows when people are lying and she can see through illusions; she doesn't know what the truth is or have psychic powers. More details here. If you'd rather not deal, that's cool, I know she's not for everyone.))

Another merchant? Intriguing. Ravari wanders over, trying not to look too curious about this new person. A pony who does her own business. Will the wonders of the Multiverse never cease?

"The currency is varied and depends on the people involved in the transaction, friend. Barter is often more accepted, but small baubles, gems and coins of good metal, are often accepted as well."

"The local currency," purrs a thin man in a fine suit, leaning lightly on a silver-headed ebony cane, "is whatever you can persuade someone holds value." Strolling closer, he adds, "no permits are needed, thankfully--trade at your leisure."

((Schön appears human to mortal senses, but there's a bit more going on there, to those with an awareness of magic. I'm not sure how aware of ambient magic Trixie is.))

((Thank you! I'm not super familiar, but with a name like Trixie... or Verity... well.))

"Currency is whatever you're willing to accept." The answer comes from a pink-haired woman watching from nearby. It comes at a slight delay, because the 616 had a lot of weird shit, but talking ponies... not so much. Also not unicorns, those got hunted to extinction. (Asgardians are not great environmental stewards.)

"There's not much of a government here, so permits aren't really an issue. You uh... need a hand with that?"

Ravari's used to the staring. It's no better back in Skyrim, it's barely better in Cyrodiil. She hasn't been home in so long, she's forgotten what it's like to not be a stranger in a strange land.

"Many are surprised to see me. I take no offense," she assures Trixie. "I am Khajiit, from a world called Tamriel. We have none of your kind there either, so this is a delightful discovery for us both, hmm?"

((Ah, sounds neat. :D))

"That is the other side of the issue, yeah. You're on your own when it comes to making sure you're getting what you think you're getting. But what's considered valuable can change drastically, so, I wouldn't worry about comparing prices too much." It's all so subjective. Figuring out who's taking advantage of who can be, well, tricky.

She shrugs a bit at the decline; she's not surprised, but she wanted to be nice. "Oh? Well, there's a lot of us around here. I'm sure you'll get used to it soon. I've been here for the better part of a year. Where you set up depends on a couple things. How long you're planning to stay, and what you're selling. There are markets where you can set up a stall in the commercial district, and shops if you want a permanent place. Or if it's just a day or two usually people don't mind if you set up around the forum here."

"It was much the same when I first arrived. The people here are so different than in my world. But, ah, I have grown fond of this place."

She gives a bow and a smile with her introduction. "I am Daro'Ravari. Ravari to my friends, which I hope we shall be. I too am a merchant who sometimes sells my wares here, so I must admit, I am most curious as to what you have brought."

"You're quite welcome," he replies genially, strolling a few steps closer. "Might I ask what it is that you sell? I have something of an interest in commerce, myself. Schön W. Freund, pleased to meet you."

((Schön is a fae soul in a human body, an eminently magical being whose magic relies on passion, creativity, and imagination to exist. Petty banalities are literal poison to him, or would be outside the antiviolence field. His cane is, in actuality, a staff in which he has invested considerable magic as well, and he carries a number of magic items on him at any given time, including a bag of holding sewn into the inside pocket of his suit jacket.))
brave_heart_verity: (thinking about it)

[personal profile] brave_heart_verity 2016-03-09 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
((Well, it's from a magic ring she swallowed as a baby that absorbed into her, so... honestly? Not a fucking clue. :P She's free to sense it if you'd like, but it's probably not super strong.))

"Ah, that's fair. Some of the forgeries around here are really quite good. People who sell false goods in the marketplaces get ratted out by the other merchants pretty quick, so unless you're one of the first couple customers, it shouldn't be a problem. We're sort of a self-policing community sometimes." Ver's had a hard time articulating what's wrong with some of the fakes she's seen, and that's after knowing for absolute fact that there's something wrong with them.

But a forgery that good is a kind of art in and of itself, in her opinion.

"Yeah, exploring is a lot of fun. And with your setup here it should be pretty easy for you."

She hums thoughtfully at the question and takes a moment to think about it. "There's a few vacant lots I can think of, yeah. You're a gardener? I love gardens, but I grew up in a city so mine have always been in pots."

"I have found the pamphlet to be quite an honest appraisal of the situation," she offers as assurance. Friendship is the best Khajiit magic!

"Ah, a wizard as well as a merchant? My people are not so skilled at the magic arts, but alchemy is one we know well. It is wise to be cautious in introducing new ingredients and potions to people who are unprepared for them. I might be able to help you test your potions, and can offer some of my own in exchange for you to test as well?"
u_can_have_it_4_a_song: So happy you agree (Grin)

((He's not in their weight class anymore. His home reality has run very short on magic, and while the noble fae once sculpted reality to their whim, they now skulk on the edges of society and mooch imagination from the few mortals who haven't been ground down by the crapsack world in which they live. He's got a big bag of tricks, and is good for maybe two or three big spells of his own, but he mostly gets by on careful deployment of magic items and bartered favors.))

"Trixie it is, then," he agrees genially, sweeping his hat from his head and hanging it atop his cane, which he leaves standing on its own as he steps toward a more conversational distance. The tip of the cane scrapes quietly against the ground as it follows him, a couple paces distant.

"Ah! A few of my favorite things. I should be very interested indeed to peruse your stock--as well as to ask what you might be looking for in life."

((Sounds fair. She's very grounded.))

"It's a terrible thing to see too much truth," she warns, and something in her tone... she knows it too well. She takes a breath before giving her head a little shake and focusing on Trixie again. "An anti-theft ward would be popular. Real estate isn't exactly expensive, but it can be hard to defend your claim sometimes."

She knows all too well that magic is real, so the list of abilities and potential problems is taken as a matter of course. But magic is rare where she's from, rare enough that it still impresses her. "Magic? Neat. I've learned a little bit, just fragments really, while I've been here. Maybe we can trade tips sometime."

The request gets a nod. "Sure. How big an area are you thinking? Like... the size of that building, or bigger, like the size of this plaza?" It would help to know where to start.

She might consider it rambling, but Ravari's clearly interested. Just look at her tail sway. Khajiit are terrible at hiding their feelings, so always invite them to poker night. "That seems a wise way to view the subject. It is good to have many perspectives, I believe, and to have those who can bring them together as well."

This deal keeps getting better and better. "That would be most kind. I have collected many recipes in my travels, and would be pleased to share them with you as well. I have also found some use with some of the plants native to this place. I propose we share our discoveries on that subject with each other whenever we have the chance."

((That is actually a fantastic metaphor and I applaud you for it. Wow, that's a great comparison.))

"Mm, modest ambition can be a fine thing," he observes, in tones of agreement. "As for surprise, adventure, new magic and knowledge, you are assuredly in the right place. I'd be delighted to peruse your books, when time allows."

He'd be quite happy to lend some of his rarer items for study--it's like bartering them as payment, only he gets them back at the end. What's not to like?
