The season is a'changing, the weather is warmer. The forecast calls for high temperature, low humidity and a light breeze. A near perfect day. What better reason to gather the friends and have a good time with a bonfire? Grab a beer, have a seat. Cheery tunes fill the salty air. There's plenty of room and so much to eat.

Matt Murdock is actually dressed for the beach. Still likely more than usual. He burns so easily. There's no way he could have done this alone. Anyone who is anyone in Nexus knows that there is that distinct Verity Willis touch on everything. If the sounds and the sights don't get you, it is going to be whatever Clint has on the grill. That man is magic.

Your sympathy is appreciated. I've been known to take an occasional bounty outside my own Facet. If you find your way home and need a hand dealing with them, keep me in mind.

His long ears flick a little at the word bounty. "You are a hunter of sorts?"

*She gives a low, dangerous chuckle--the sound of a predator amused.*

Where I come from, I'm the definitive article.

For his part, the K'da looks slightly amused also. He bows his head to her. "Then I am privileged to be in such... esteemed company."

Privileged.

*She smirks.*

Yes. That's exactly how people usually feel in my presence.

He doesn't quite get that she's being sarcastic. "If you are so iconic, it must be a great honor to be hunted by one such as you. If those you hunt have honor, that is."

My prey would prefer a lesser distinction, I think.

*Still, the idea amuses her.*

The largest government in the galaxy where I operate offers bounties for the capture or elimination of criminals and enemies too elusive or too strong for their police and military to deal with.

*She offers that for a sense of scale. It's one thing to catch wayward criminals for an overtaxed police force, but taking down the groups that hold off militaries is another order of magnitude.*

"And you do this... what is the word? Freelance?"

*She nods.*

Freelance is the term. I generally work alone. I'm willing to work with others when it's necessary, but I've been witness to some unfortunate... collateral damage, on those missions.

"The galaxy takes all kinds," he says, although he doesn't really understand. "My kind are not meant for solitude. To us, to be alone is death."

Good company is probably healthier, in the long run.

*She gives a philosophical shrug.*

I do have hopes, though, of not dying alone, when the time comes.

*There are too many she'd want to take with her.*

"A worthwhile hope," Faris says, nodding his head slightly. "For now, perhaps we should not dwell too deeply on the matter. This environment is too soothing for such thoughts."

*She chooses a smile, and makes it stick.*

Right. Happy thoughts, for happy times. What's happy in your life?

The K'da ponders that. "I am currently safe and have found friends away from home."

Two very high points, indeed. The Nexus is good for that, I've found. Personal growth, as well.

"Due to exposure to so many diverse points of view? Or for another reason?" he questions.

Diverse points of view help, certainly, and access to resources that don't even exist in one's home Facet, but there's also the Antiviolence Field. If you fear a great many things, you have a chance to feel safe; if you meet old enemies, or make new ones, there is little point in attacking them. To need to think, and to have the chance to do so, is a very good spur for growth.

"Hunter did mention an antiviolence field, though we have not discussed it in great detail. Such a thing sounds incredible."

Sounds incredible, yes, but I've seen it stress-tested by things at the upper range of my understanding. I could drop a collapsing star in your lap, and all you'd feel is a pleasant warmth.

He contemplates that for a moment. "I do not suppose it is something that a person could take with them, outside of this place."

*She laughs, then shakes her head.*

No way that I've seen--as much as I would enjoy walking through fire until I was ready to return it.

"Unsurprising, but worth asking. My people would greatly benefit from such protection."

Many people could benefit from such protection. Although outside the Nexus, it would also be an easy thing to abuse.

The K'da cocks his head to the side. "Abuse in what way?"

Suppose you have this protection, and your enemy doesn't. You can take your time, get into position to pose the greatest possible threat, even under their heaviest fire. Used strategically, simply occupying key locations could be enough to force a surrender, based on the magnitude of what you could unleash the moment you started to attack. Alternately, you could wait for your enemies to exhaust their munitions and stamina before crushing them in their depleted state.

*She gives a slight shrug, as if the tactical and strategic implications are quite obvious.*

For that matter, you'd be able to rob anyone blind--they can't hurt you, can't restrain you, even as you take any unattended object you can pick up and walk away.
