When Hunter made his first appearance in the Nexus, it was in The Parklands. And today, he is sitting in the same spot near the water. He has a canvas set up, and is working on a large piece depicting a mother pushing a child on a swing set. There is also a large collection of books near him. Obviously he had been studying over something of importance.

He gets to the point where the canvas is nearly complete, when he stops and places his brushes to the side. After studying the canvas for a moment, Hunter reaches out and touches the canvas, right in the lower left corner.

He closes his eyes and concentrates, and after a moment, the picture on the canvas comes to life. There is also a soft glow on his arm, where a few tiny roses bloom to life on the rose bush.

But the moment doesn't last long. It ends very quickly. And Hunter sighs a little frustrated. "What am I doing wrong?"

"I have been trying to concentrate on the tattoos, the pieces of the magic that are left behind on my skin. And by effecting them... trying to effect my paintings."

Verity hums softly, thinking about that. Trying to articulate magic theory has never been one of her strong suits. (And most of the magic in her life has happened without her say-so.)

"Are the tattoos the source of the power, or a tool to harness the power?"

"More of a tool... a reminder of the person who gave me this ability."

"They change too, when I concentrate on changing other art work."

"Maybe it's that you're not strong enough yet to make things permanent? The more you try to change reality, the harder it pushes back. It might just be that you need to work on those muscles for a while."

"That is a good possibility." Hunter agrees with the comment.

"And one can't expect to be good at something right away."

"Hey, you're making it work. You're already good at it." Ver gives him a little squeeze. "Don't sell yourself short."

[losthunter]

"Thanks. For being so encouraging." Hunter smiles softly.

[brave_heart_verity]

"You're welcome. It's both my job and my privilege." She leans in to kiss his cheek before focusing on the painting again. "You have to prime a canvas before painting it, right? What if you prime the paints and things to take the magic better while you're painting?"

[losthunter]

"I never thought about doing that..." Hunter pauses. Tilts his head slightly. "Maybe there is more magically-conductive paints I could be using."

[brave_heart_verity]

"Maybe. My alchemy teacher and I have found that the materials used in our tools makes a difference, so, why not paint? Just think, you may discover a whole new field of magical study." Ver gives him an encouraging smile. "And in the meantime, you'll keep making gorgeous things. Win win."

[losthunter]

"I like the sound of that. Perhaps you can help me find some materials."

[brave_heart_verity]

"I'd be happy to. I've already got lots of ingredients at home, although I don't know how well they'd work in paint... but we'll find out."

[losthunter]

"Experimentations with my favorite girl. How could I say no?" He teases a little.

[brave_heart_verity]

"Mm, and I didn't even have to bribe you with food," she teases back. "I'll ask around, see if anyone has any ideas where we should start. I don't think Shade-Seeker is much of an artist, but Schon, well..."

She pauses, then admits, "Maybe we should just start there."

[losthunter]

"Usually the best bet... especially since it would just inspire more art." Hunter chuckles softly.

"Schon, inspiring you? Oh dear. I'm not sure his ego can stand that kind of inflation," she jokes. Half jokes. "Please don't tell him I said that."

[losthunter]

"It would be too late anyway... he already knows that I consider him an inspiration." And had a big crush on him. But had is the main word there. Hunter has other men in his life now.

Men, plural? If she'd known, she would have added a few more to the caterer's headcount. She's far from one to blame him for wanting to keep company with people. Or for having a little crush on Schon for a little while. (That part is still, as far as she knows, secret.)

"Ah, well. We'll just have to keep an eye on how many people get to fawn over him at a time. For his own good, of course."

Well one of those men Hunter had met after the wedding. So he only needed one extra invitation at the time of the wedding.

Now, he feels so incredibly happy to have two great men in his life, who he gets to spend time with. And who knows where either relationship will go...

"That will be more difficult that it seems. He has that 'fawn-over-me' vibe."

Sounds complicated. She'd be no help in this situation, both from lack of experience and her huge Loki-shaped blind spot when it comes to her own behavior.

"He does," she agrees with a sigh. "It makes working for him difficult sometimes."

What matters most to Hunter is that he can talk to Verity about anything, even if she doesn't have the experience. It is just nice to have someone who will just listen.

Just like he is here for her, if she ever needs to talk about that Loki-shaped blind spot.

"I am a little excited about telling him about my new abilities."

It's true, she'll always love and accept him, even if she doesn't understand or necessarily approve of something. She won't just listen, though: there'll be hugs and quite possibly food involved.

She'd have to be able to see that Loki-shaped blind spot before she could talk about it more completely than she currently does.

"I bet he'll be excited to hear about them."

[losthunter]

The fact that she will always love and accept him is the most important thing in the world. And Hunter treasures that. The food and hugs are nice bonuses.

"You and I should have a spa day."

"Or even better, I was planning a Drag Night out."

The best treasures come with bonuses. That's what makes them seem so grand.

"Mm, tough choice. Who would be coming out for drag night?"

"A few of my drag friends. And a new Nexus friend, named Jim Kirk."
